Dansilar was an Italian hosiery manufacturer, based in Milan, that produced its own line of sheers in Europe as well as licensed Cacharel sheers, along with women’s tights, knee-highs, thigh-highs, and children’s and infants’ legwear.[1] The company also operated a stocking factory in Gattico, in the Piedmont region, which ceased operations in 1998.[2]

Design and History

Documented visual history for Dansilar is limited. A logo database lists Dansilar as a stocking brand from Germany and attributes its logo to designer Hans Lohrer, but this source does not provide a date, description, or image of the mark.[3][4] The database is a logo archive rather than a primary source, and no independent documentation confirms the designer attribution or the German origin.

What is verifiable is the company’s Italian identity. Dansilar SpA was one of three Italian hosiery makers that formed The Italian Hosiery Co-Op in 1997 to sell private-label products to U.S. retailers.[1] The Gattico factory site was later redeveloped; the former industrial area was demolished and replaced by a new primary school building.[2][5]

Archival material from the Wunderman advertising agency includes items catalogued as “Dansilar stockings, 1994-1995,” indicating that the brand was the subject of advertising work during that period, though the contents are restricted.[6]

Meaning and Symbolism

No documented explanation of the Dansilar logo’s meaning, symbolism, or color palette has been found in reliable sources. The unverified claim that the logo was designed in 1955 by a German designer named Hans Lohrer cannot be confirmed. A Stuttgart commercial graphic designer named Hanns Lohrer (1912-1995) is documented as having worked on Porsche’s visual identity in the 1950s and 1960s,[7] but no source connects him to Dansilar.
