Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is an Indian public sector steel manufacturing corporation based in New Delhi. The company’s visual identity centers on an abstract blue mark paired with the organization’s name in both Devanagari script and English.
Design and History
The SAIL logo was designed in 1973 by R.K. Joshi of Ulka Advertising, the same year the company was incorporated on 24th January, 1973. [1] [2]
The mark is an abstract symbol in blue, followed by the company name in Devanagari and English. [3] The symbol uses a triangular form with an upward direction, indicating growth and development of the steel industry. A solid rhombus enclosed within the triangle reflects SAIL’s role in infusing high-level technical and managerial expertise. [1]
In May 2022, SAIL launched a commemorative logo to mark fifty years of incorporation. The design retained the essence of the company’s existing logo while bringing out the spirit of the company’s fifty-year journey. The commemorative logo was launched by Chairman Soma Mondal on 23rd May, 2022. [2]
Meaning and Symbolism
The triangular form pointing upward symbolizes growth and development of the steel industry. The solid rhombus enclosed within the triangle represents SAIL’s commitment to infusing high-level technical and managerial expertise. [1]
