FC Mika is an Armenian football club based in Yerevan, founded on November 30, 1998, as Mika-Kasakh Ashtarak in the town of Ashtarak.[1] The club retired from professional football after the 2015–16 season due to financial and non-financial difficulties, then returned to competition in 2022 with a new name and crest.[1]
Design and History
The club’s return to professional football in 2022 marked a significant visual change. According to Wikipedia, the club “returned to professional football in 2022 with a new name and crest” and entered the 2022–23 Armenian First League.[2] This confirms that the current crest dates from 2022, when the club adopted a new identity for its comeback season.
An earlier version of the Mika crest, associated with the club’s time in Ashtarak, featured a circular design with an orange outer ring, a blue inner band inscribed with “REPUBLIC of ARMENIA” and “ASHTARAK”, and a central white field displaying “MIKA” above a black-and-white soccer ball flanked by red-and-blue ribbon motifs.[3] This older badge reflected the club’s Ashtarak origins before its 2007 relocation to Yerevan.[1]
The 2022 crest replaced this earlier design when the club resumed play. The club’s 2022–23 home kit, manufactured by adidas, was plain white and blue, indicating the club’s kit colors at the time of its return.[4]
Meaning and Symbolism
The earlier Ashtarak-era badge incorporated red-and-blue ribbon motifs that referenced the Armenian flag, along with the club’s name and location.[3] No official source provides a documented meaning for the current crest’s elements, and claims about color symbolism in the club’s identity are not supported by primary evidence.
