Persik Kediri, officially Persatuan Sepakbola Indonesia Kediri, is an Indonesian football club based in Kediri, East Java, founded in 1950. The club’s crest is a pentagon-shaped emblem with red and black background colors, featuring two yellow gates that symbolize the glory of the Kediri Kingdom in the past.[1]
Design and History
The Persik Kediri logo was designed by Harsono, a Kediri artist who was also known as a teacher.[2] Harsono created the logo in 1972 at the request of the club’s chairman at the time.[3] The gate image that became the main object of the logo was inspired by the gate of Kodam VIII Brawijaya (now Kodam V), as well as the common gate design trends of that period.[3]
The design has been maintained without change since its creation.[4] Two stars have been added above the crest to represent the club’s two Indonesian League championship titles, won in 2003 and 2006.[5]
Meaning and Symbolism
Inside the pentagon, the two yellow gates represent the glory of the Kediri Kingdom in the past.[1] Between the two gates is a flower symbol taken from the PSSI (Football Association of Indonesia) logo, indicating that Persik Kediri is a member of the Indonesian Football Association.[1] The word “PERSIK” appears above the gate image as the team name, and “KEDIRI” appears below it, indicating the club’s city of origin.[6]
The club’s nickname, Macan Putih (White Tiger), was adopted from one of the elements in the Kediri city government logo.[7]
