Fox Footy is an Australian rules football subscription television channel dedicated to screening AFL matches and related programming, produced by FOX SPORTS Australia and available via the Foxtel platform.[1] The channel is stylised as FOX FOOTY.[1]
Design and History
Fox Footy’s visual identity is closely tied to its parent brand, FOX SPORTS Australia, which compiles and produces live content across seven dedicated high definition channels including FOX FOOTY.[2] The channel is a division of Foxtel.[2]
The channel’s history dates back to 2002, when the original Fox Footy Channel launched on 6 March 2002 after News Limited won the television broadcast rights to the AFL for the 2002 to 2006 seasons.[3] The channel later returned under its original name “Fox Footy” after a proposed name of “Fox Sports AFL” was changed back.[1]
In early 2018, Fox Sports underwent a presentation refresh that affected the channel’s on-air watermarks. As part of this change, the channel number was no longer displayed below the watermark, and Fox Footy’s watermark only included “FOX” within the logo.[4] The 2018 season launch was promoted with a “new look FOX Footy” and a “fresh look and feel.”[5]
In September 2026, Foxtel’s owner DAZN announced that Fox Footy, along with Fox Cricket and Fox League, would be rebranded as Kayo Footy, Kayo Cricket and Kayo League respectively, as part of a plan to unite Fox Sports and Kayo Sports under a single Kayo Sports brand in 2027.[6][7]
Meaning and Symbolism
The Fox Footy identity uses the “FOX” wordmark as its primary graphic element, consistent with the broader Fox Sports channel family. The channel’s on-air presentation has been described as delivering “the biggest marks, the best goals and most engaging AFL content” to viewers.[8] The brand position “We’re a FoxSporting Nation” was used in a 2017 campaign celebrating Fox Footy’s inclusive coverage of every AFL club.[9]
