Akademija Pandev, the football club founded in 2010 by Macedonian footballer Goran Pandev in Strumica, North Macedonia, has undergone two documented visual identity changes: a 2017 refresh upon promotion to the First League and a full rebrand in 2023 following a change in ownership. The club is now officially known as FK Akademija Pandev Brera Strumica and competes under the short form AP Brera Strumica.[1]
Design and History
The club was founded in 2010 as FK Akademija Pandev by Goran Pandev, after whom the academy was named.[1] After registering a senior team in 2014 and winning promotion to the Macedonian First League for the 2017/2018 season, the club presented a refined new logo alongside new kits from Italian sportswear brand Givova at a press conference in June 2017.[2][3] The club retained its blue and white colors in the updated mark, with a yellow accent added to the blue vertical stripes within the logo.[4]
In 2023, Brera Holdings PLC acquired 90 percent of the club’s shares, prompting a rebrand announced on June 25, 2023. The club was renamed FK Akademija Pandev Brera Strumica, with Goran Pandev appointed president of the new board of directors.[5] The rebranding was handled by the agency EonEden, which described the project as a comprehensive overhaul encompassing the new name, logo, uniforms, and digital presence.[6]
Meaning and Symbolism
The 2023 logo was described by the club as a composite mark. According to the official announcement, the new emblem incorporates the colors of the investor Brera, the coat of arms of the Strumica municipality, and retains the club’s previous emblem as an integral part, with “Brera Strumica” written in Latin script.[7] The addition of “Brera” to the club name references the artists’ district in Milan, which serves as the primary residence of the new owners.[6]
Typography and Design
The 2023 rebrand specified that the club name appears in Latin characters on the emblem, reading “Brera Strumica.”[7] The agency EonEden also implemented motion design for the logo and video content as part of the rebranding campaign.[6]
