Zirə Futbol Klubu, commonly known as Zira FK, is an Azerbaijani professional football club based in the Zirə settlement of Baku. The club was founded in 2014 and competes in the Azerbaijan Premier League.[1] The club’s nickname is “Qartallar” (The Eagles).[1]
Design and History
Zira FK was publicly presented on September 5, 2014, at a ceremony in Baku where the club’s kits, flag, and emblem were unveiled to the public.[2] The club’s president at the time, Vüqar Astanov, confirmed that the club had its own flag and emblem, noting the professional approach taken to the club’s branding from its inception.[2]
The club’s official colors are blue and white.[3] The home kit has traditionally been blue, while the away kit is red.[4] The club’s official website, fczire.az, serves as the primary source for the current crest.[5]
Meaning and Symbolism
The club’s nickname “Qartallar” (The Eagles) is reflected in the crest, which features an eagle motif.[1] The eagle is a common symbol in Azerbaijani sports branding, and the club’s identity is built around this avian emblem. The blue and white color scheme is consistent across the club’s visual identity, from the crest to the matchday kits.[3]
No official documentation has been published by the club detailing specific symbolic meanings for individual elements of the crest beyond the eagle association with the club’s nickname. The club was named after the Zirə settlement, chosen because of the high interest in football among local youth and the presence of a modern sports complex in the area, built with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.[2]
