The Cleburne Railroaders are a professional baseball team based in Cleburne, Texas, competing in the American Association of Professional Baseball. The franchise has undergone two significant visual identity overhauls since its founding, most recently unveiling a refreshed logo and brand identity in January 2026 at La Moderna Field.[1]
Design and History
The modern Railroaders franchise was established in 2017, though the team name carries a longer local history. The 2026 rebrand explicitly references a 1906 championship team from Cleburne, with a “1906” patch on the uniforms signifying the first year of professional baseball in the city.[2]The 2026 identity was created by Nick Matarese of The Barn Creative.[3] The new primary logo features an “R” with a Texas flag in the middle, rivets along the side to mimic a railroad line, and a “cow catcher” and headlight at the front of the letter.[2] The full wordmark incorporates the primary R logo with the remaining letters set in a typeface that evokes the metallic sides of a train.[3]The 2026 suite also includes a mark commemorating the inaugural Railroaders team, featuring criss-crossed rail spikes set against the state of Texas, and a blackletter logo the team calls the “Heritage R,” which evokes the original gothic letter patch worn by the 1906 championship team.[3] A red “heritage” jersey serves as a direct tribute to the 1906 team with a Gothic style “R” matching the logo of that first squad.[2]Meaning and Symbolism
The 2026 rebrand is anchored by a color palette of Railroad Navy, Texas Red, and an electric Cleburne Blue.[4] The identity was designed to accentuate the Railroaders’ Texas roots while incorporating elements from previous iterations of the brand.[3]Typography and Design
The Railroaders’ previous identity, introduced in 2021, was created by designer Kevin McLaughlin in partnership with Alan Miller’s COLLiDE Agency.[5] That design system included the “C-Texas” logo, featuring a railroad track-shaped “C” (which also doubled as a horseshoe) leading to Cleburne’s location on a map of Texas, marked with a star and railroad spike. The “Katy-R” logo incorporated the star and spike, while the “Cleburne Circle” featured the C-Texas mark surrounded by narrow railroad tracks substituting for baseball seams.[5]The 2021 wordmark was based on the script lettering of “The Katy,” the Missouri, Kansas, and Texas railroad, a name inscribed on the side of the Union Pacific Heritage locomotive.[5] The 2021 colors were inspired by the Texas flag: Caboose Red, Steel Rail Blue, and Whistle Post White.[5] These replaced the team’s original orange and blue scheme from the 2017 launch.[6]The original 2017 logo, which featured the team mascot Spike, was designed by J.J. Lillagore, a Cleburne firefighter.[7]Logo Index is an independent educational archive covering logos, visual identities and graphic design history.
