Hobro IK, formally Hobro Idræts Klub, is a Danish football club based in the town of Hobro. Founded on May 27, 1913, the club is commonly known by the short names “Hobro IK” or “HIK” and is affiliated with DBU Jutland.[1] The club’s official website is hikfodbold.dk.[2]
Design and History
The current Hobro IK crest is a circular emblem. The club’s social colors are yellow and blue, a combination that appears consistently across its visual identity.[3] The crest incorporates these colors along with white and red accents, as reflected in the club’s home kits, which have featured yellow shirts with blue sleeves and trim.[4]
In July 2025, Hobro IK released a special third kit designed in collaboration with Puma to celebrate the club’s 112-year history. The retro-inspired shirt featured a large blue Hobro IK logo on the right chest, along with the text “Hobro Idrætsklub” and squad numbers without player names, creating a classic look that referenced the club’s past.[5] The shirt was produced in limited numbers after a production error affected the planned home kit for the 2025-26 season.[6]
Meaning and Symbolism
The club’s identity extends beyond football. Hobro Idrætsklub has historical roots in handball and bowling as well as football, a heritage that the club has explicitly honored in its special anniversary kit design.[5] The club’s official website describes its history and the values on which the football club is built, though it does not provide a detailed explanation of the crest’s individual elements.[7]
The town of Hobro itself has a coat of arms known since 1648, showing two knights on a bridge over the Ho river, a canting reference to the town’s name. However, no documented connection between this municipal heraldry and the Hobro IK club crest has been established in available sources.[8]
