Jokipojat was the name used by the Finnish ice hockey club based in Joensuu, now known as Joensuun Kiekko-Pojat, from 1994 until 2020. The club, originally founded in 1953, competed under the Jokipojat name in the Mestis, Finland’s second-highest men’s ice hockey league.[1][2]
Design and History
In 2007, Jokipojat introduced a new logo featuring a snarling wolf with a spiked collar. The mark used the club’s familiar red, black and white colors.[3] The design goal was to create an aggressive and fierce logo that represented the city of Joensuu.[3] The wolf motif was described as a tamed wolf, given the presence of the collar.[3]
In May 2020, the club underwent a major change. New owners took over, and the team reverted to its former name, Joensuun Kiekko-Pojat, which had been used from 1960 to 1994. Along with the name change, the club brought back its old logo.[1] The logo used from 2020 onward was a return to the legendary mark that had been in use during the 1960–1994 period.[4]
Meaning and Symbolism
The 2007 wolf logo was designed to convey an aggressive and fierce character tied to Joensuu.[3] The spiked collar on the wolf was a deliberate element, suggesting a creature that was wild yet controlled.[3]
Typography and Design
The current Joensuun Kiekko-Pojat brand uses red, white and black as its primary colors, with the red identified by the hex code #E30614.[5] The club’s official website is joensuunkiekkopojat.fi.[2]
