KooKoo is a Finnish ice hockey club based in Kouvola, competing in Liiga, the top tier of Finnish ice hockey. The team was established in 1965 under the name Kouvolan Kiekko-65, and its official colors are black, orange, and white.[1]
Design and History
KooKoo’s current primary logo is a shield-shaped crest featuring the club name. The club’s official colors are black, orange, and white.[1] The current crest has been in use since 2015, when the club entered Liiga.[2]
KooKoo’s visual identity has included several distinct logos over the club’s history. The original 1965 logo was used by Kouvolan Kiekko-65, while a newer logo was later adopted by the club’s representative team.[3]
One notable historical mark was the “Kukko” (rooster) logo, introduced for the 1998-1999 season. It appeared on game jerseys for three seasons, from 1998 to 2001, and remained in use in newspaper advertisements and game programs through the 2003-2004 season. It was eventually replaced on jerseys by KooKoo’s traditional shield crest.[4]
In January 2023, KooKoo revived the Kukko logo for a special “Mustaoranssi” (black-orange) themed match, placing it on a retro-style specialty jersey that also drew on historical typography, colors, and cuts.[4]
Earlier retro jerseys from 2020 featured a diagonal “KooKoo” wordmark based on the club’s second jersey design from the late 1960s and early 1970s, with orange as the primary jersey color.[5]
Typography and Design
In December 2025, KooKoo introduced a new third jersey that modified the standard crest’s color treatment. The shield and “KooKoo” text had their white outlines changed to a neon-tinted orange, and the “KooKoo” text color was switched from orange to black.[6]
