FC Metallurg-Oskol Stary Oskol is a Russian football club based in Stary Oskol, Belgorod Oblast. The club was founded in 1997 and has undergone several name changes throughout its history, adopting the Metallurg-Oskol name in 2010.[1] The club’s colors are documented as blue and white.[2]
Design and History
The club’s visual identity has evolved alongside its frequent name changes. The team was originally founded in 1997 as SK GosNI-Spartak, then became Oskol-Dynamo in 2005, Zodiak in 2006, and Zodiak-Oskol in 2009 before settling on Metallurg-Oskol in 2010.[1] The 2010 renaming coincided with a change in the club’s ownership and sponsorship structure, as the team came under the umbrella of the local metallurgical industry.[3]
The club dropped out of professional competition during the winter break of the 2013/14 season due to lack of financing and was formally dissolved in 2014.[4] The team was re-established in 2015 under the name Metallurg-OEMK, and in April 2021 it returned to the Metallurg-Oskol name.[5]
Meaning and Symbolism
The club’s blue and white color scheme has been a consistent element of its identity across its various name changes. Sources note that the blue-white colors were established during the period when the club was known as Zodiak (2006-2009), when the main sponsor was a construction company of the same name.[6] These colors were retained after the 2010 rebranding to Metallurg-Oskol and continued through the club’s later iterations.[2]
Documented visual details of the club’s crest are limited in available sources. The club’s name references the metallurgical industry of Stary Oskol, home to the Oskol Electrometallurgical Plant (OEMK), one of Russia’s major steel producers.[7]
