Frisk Asker Ishockey, the ice hockey division of the Norwegian sports club IF Frisk Asker, is based in Asker, Norway. The club, founded in 1922, plays in the top Norwegian league and is commonly known by the nickname “Tigers.”[1][2]
Design and History
The Frisk Asker visual identity centers on a tiger badge, reflecting the club’s nickname and mascot.[3] The club’s official colors are orange, black, and white.[1] The home jersey is orange with black and white details, paired with black pants and orange stockings.[1]
The tiger identity has deep roots in the club’s history. In 1969, Frisk merged with the Oslo-based club IK Tigrene, whose name translates to “the Tigers.”[4] The club competed as “Frisk Tigers” from 1994 to 2010 before returning to the Frisk Asker name.[5] The tiger badge remains central to the club’s identity, appearing on orange or black supporter flags.[3]
Meaning and Symbolism
The tiger serves as the club’s symbol and mascot, a direct reference to the 1969 merger with IK Tigrene.[4] The club’s official supporter shop is named “Tiger-shopen,” further reinforcing the tiger identity in the club’s commercial and fan-facing operations.[2]
When Frost Arkitekter designed the interior color strategy for the club’s home arena, Varner Arena, in 2020, they worked with an abstract interpretation of the tiger symbol. Orange stripes on a dark surface guide visitors through the building, a design choice that explicitly references the club’s mascot.[6]
