Nyköpings BIS, commonly known as Bissarna, is a Swedish sports club based in Nyköping, Södermanland. The club was formed in 1966 through a merger of Nyköpings SK and Nyköpings AIK, and today it operates football and athletics sections. The name BIS is an abbreviation for Boll- och IdrottsSällskap (Ball and Sports Society), which was initially also shortened as BoIS. [1]
Design and History
The club’s official values document states that members are proud of their origin and identity, and that the club badge (klubbmärket) gives them security, courage and strength. [2] The same document describes the club’s history and identity as unique, clarifying who the club is and what it stands for as a sports association. [2]
Historical evidence from Sörmlands museum shows that a Nyköpings BIS logotype in red against a light background appeared on a printed team photograph of the club’s ice hockey squad for the 1974-1975 season. [3] In that same photograph, the ice hockey players wore dark blue jerseys with white and red print, and lighter blue trousers. [4]
Meaning and Symbolism
The club’s official colors are documented as red and blue. A motion submitted to the Nyköpings BIS annual meeting in 2024 states that the club’s colors have been red and blue for over 50 years, describing them as part of the club’s identity and history that is recognizable and meaningful to members and supporters. [5]
Contemporary club merchandise reflects these colors, with match shirts and training tops offered in red/white combinations and match shorts in blue/white. [6] [7]
