PS Barito Putera, officially Persatuan Sepak Bola Barito Putera, is an Indonesian football club based in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan. The club’s visual identity is built around a simple crest that incorporates the letters “BP” and the number “88,” a reference to the club’s founding year.
Design and History
The Barito Putera logo is described as simple in form, typical of clubs from the Galatama era of Indonesian football. The pattern within the logo forms the letters “BP,” which stand for Barito Putera, alongside the number “88,” representing the year the club was established in 1988.[1]
The club was founded on 21 April 1988 by H. Abdussamad Sulaiman HB.[1] The “88” in the logo has become an iconic symbol for the club, and the “BP 88” monogram remains in use as a club symbol.[2]
In September 2025, the club released a new away jersey for the 2025/2026 season in black and gold. The release drew attention because the jersey featured a portrait of the late founder H. Abdussamad Sulaiman HB and his wife on the left chest, placed directly above a special logo with the number 88.[3] Club CEO Hasnuryadi Sulaiman explained that the photo was placed on the left side, near the heart, so players would always remember the values taught by the founder, including love, dedication and struggle for the people of Banua.[4]
Meaning and Symbolism
The number 88 in the logo directly references the year the club was formed, 1988.[1] The letters “BP” form the core monogram of the crest, serving as the abbreviation for Barito Putera.[1]
Typography and Design
The crest follows a simple design approach characteristic of Galatama-era club logos, with the “BP” lettering and “88” numerals integrated into the overall pattern.[1] The club’s traditional colors are yellow and blue,[5] with yellow serving as the dominant home jersey color in recent seasons.[6]
