UD Ibiza, officially Unión Deportiva Ibiza, S.A.D., is a Spanish football club founded in July 2015 on the island of Ibiza.[1] The club’s visual identity is built around a circular emblem featuring a tower, the sea, and the club’s colors, elements that have remained consistent through its recent history.
Design and History
The club’s current circular crest dates to September 2015, when the newly formed entity replaced the emblem used by its predecessor. The redesign was a complete change in image: the red color of the previous badge was eliminated, making blue the protagonist color, with white and, notably, gold also featured. The new circular design was described at the time as fresh and modern, with the word “Ibiza” presiding over the image alongside “Eivissa” and “Unión Deportiva” in a secondary role. At the center, a circle with a gold border encloses a stylized castle that had already appeared in the previous badge, and the Ibizan sea remains prominent, though the characteristic football was removed.[2]
In June 2026, the club introduced a technical update to its official crest, described as an “actualización técnica” aimed at improving legibility, visual balance, and correct application across all club platforms. The club emphasized that this was not a change of image: the colors, circular shape, tower, sea, and all elements that had accompanied the crest in recent years remained unaltered. The intervention focused exclusively on correcting technical aspects related to proportions, alignments, and graphic construction. Specific adjustments included harmonizing the word “IBIZA” with the circular structure of the emblem, adjusting the proportions of the castle to reinforce its visual balance, and optimizing the sea waves for a cleaner, more centered composition.[3][4]
The update was motivated by the need for a more solid and adaptable version of the crest in a context where the club’s image appears constantly on kits, merchandise, digital platforms, audiovisual content, corporate documentation, and advertising. The club stated the evolution was part of its continued professionalization and brand consolidation.[3] The change was subtle enough that some media outlets noted fans would struggle to spot the differences without being told.[5]
Meaning and Symbolism
The crest’s core elements, the tower and the sea, are direct references to the island of Ibiza. The club itself has described the emblem as a symbol that represents the club, the island, and the “familia celeste” (sky-blue family).[3] The sky-blue color, which is the club’s primary identity color, is explicitly linked to the island’s environment: the club has stated that the sky-blue of its first kit refers to the crystal-clear waters of the island’s beaches and coves.[6]
Typography and Design
The 2026 technical update specifically addressed typography within the crest. The word “IBIZA” was integrated to follow the curvature of the outer circular line of the emblem, optimizing its readability at any size.[3] Local media noted that the letters now appear more extended and in a more curved format, harmonizing with the circle.[4] The club’s official statement framed these corrections as enabling better reading and greater visual consistency across any size or format.[3]
