La Unión de Formosa is an Argentine basketball club based in Formosa, capital of the Formosa Province. The club competes in the Liga Nacional de Básquet (LNB), Argentina’s top professional basketball division, which rebranded its competition under the commercial name “La Liga” ahead of the 2015/16 season.
Design and History
In July 2015, the LNB introduced a comprehensive visual overhaul for the league and all its member clubs, following a model inspired by North American professional sports branding. As part of this initiative, La Unión de Formosa replaced its previous escudo (shield) with a new isologotipo, a combined logo-and-wordmark format, designed to align with the league’s refreshed identity.[1]
The new logo features a dominant blue palette in several tones, with a large letter “U” as the central element, accompanied by a star. A variant of the isologotipo incorporates the outline of the province of Formosa, an element that had also appeared in the club’s previous logo.[1]
The league’s official website maintains a downloadable brand manual for La Unión as part of its visual identity resources for all participating clubs.[2]
Meaning and Symbolism
The club’s name and colors carry documented local significance. “La Unión” was chosen to represent all basketball clubs in Formosa rather than a single institution, and the team’s colors were selected to reflect the flag of the Formosa Province.[3] The retention of the Formosa province outline in the 2015 logo variant continues this regional identification.[1]
