Meaning and history

Pernod Ricard’s corporate logo combines a radiating sun emblem with the group’s wordmark. It identifies the company, rather than any single drink brand. The group’s positioning line, “Créateurs de convivialité,” means “creators of conviviality,” and appears in its corporate materials. Pernod Ricard’s 50 years of conviviality publication uses the phrase in describing the group’s identity.

The current corporate visual identity was rolled out globally from 1 February 2024. The project case file records the launch and describes an identity framework for the group, not just a change to a standalone logo. The case file also reports that employees were briefed and internal “guardians” trained to support consistent use.

RY, credited with the project, describes the sun logo as the heart of a “glow” of conviviality. Its account connects that idea to a warm visual system that includes colour, photography and graphic elements. In the mark itself, the emblem sits above the name; the two parts remain distinct and legible together. RY’s project description explains the concept behind the system.

The supplied logo images show the same basic arrangement: a blue sun-like emblem above the “Pernod Ricard” wordmark. One appears on a dark field and the other on a light field, making the contrast between the blue artwork and its background easy to compare. The images illustrate the mark’s presentation, but do not establish when that specific artwork first appeared.

1975 – Today

This inherited stage heading spans much more than the identity’s documented history. Pernod Ricard was formed in 1975 through the merger of the Pernod and Ricard businesses, but the corporate visual identity shown here belongs to the post-2024 refresh, not a logo demonstrated to have remained unchanged since the merger. The company’s history records the merger; the 2024 deployment is described in the identity case file.

The group’s roots provide brief context for its name: Pernod’s company history dates its founding to 1805, while Ricard was founded in Marseille in 1932. Those dates precede the 1975 merger, but they do not date the logo pictured beneath this heading. Pernod Ricard’s history outlines these milestones.

Today, the documented corporate identity is the sun-and-wordmark system refreshed in 2024. It serves the group’s communications, while its individual drinks retain their own brand identities. The sun’s association with conviviality is the design interpretation RY describes, rather than a claim that the emblem represents the 1975 merger.
