Hogan is an Italian footwear and accessories brand within Tod’s Group. Its identity centers on the uppercase HOGAN wordmark, a wing motif and the letter H, which also appears as a signature on products. The brand dates its creation to 1986, the year its Traditional sneaker debuted. Hogan’s own account describes the name as evoking youth in a Gaelic tradition and connects its wings with freedom, curiosity, lightness, boldness and energy.
Meaning and History

The wing and the H serve different visual roles: the wing gives the identity a recurring emblem, while the H is a recognizable product signature, including on the Interactive line. Hogan’s account also links the wing imagery to seeing the world from a different perspective. These are the brand’s stated associations, rather than a documented explanation of a particular designer’s intent.
1986 – 2014

This archive stage presents a wing-shaped device on its own. Its open, swept outline and feather details make it visually distinct from a conventional wordmark. The heading supplies a date range, but the image does not establish when this particular artwork was introduced; Hogan’s documented 1986 founding is not, by itself, proof that the mark dates from that year.
2014 – Today

Here the wing is integrated with the HOGAN wordmark, positioned above the G. Compared with the standalone device in the preceding stage, this version makes the relationship between symbol and name more explicit. The archive heading is not a reliable statement of current use: Hogan’s H was reworked in 2017 as tone-on-tone stitching, as Milanofinanza reported.
The H in Hogan’s Current Identity
The documented 2017 change shifted the H from a drawn graphic into a stitched motif that blends with the material beneath it. The letter remained a recognizable brand signature, while its presentation became more integrated with the product. Hogan’s 40th-anniversary program in 2026 used the line “Made to move. Born to rise”; its associated special-edition Hogan Cool design included an H86_26 motif. The anniversary films were made with students of the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia and presented in Milan on 23 September 2026, according to the Centro’s announcement. These anniversary details show the H and movement theme in contemporary brand activity, not a confirmation that the archive’s 2014-stage artwork remains current. WWD also reported on the anniversary edition.
Hogan’s trademark history is distinct from the brand’s creation: Tod’s S.p.A. entered agreements to acquire the Hogan trademark in October 2000, effective 1 January 2001. Hogan had been created in the Tod’s orbit in 1986; the trademark transaction was not the brand’s founding. Tod’s prospectus records the transaction.
