The Karen Millen identity is a wordmark: the full name set in uppercase letters, without a separate pictorial emblem. The brand’s About Us page says the logo is “an assurance of enduring style and the utmost quality – now and forever,” presenting it as part of the brand’s positioning rather than explaining the lettering’s design intent (Karen Millen About Us).

The wordmark and its archived stages
The name carries the identity by itself. In the clearer white-ground image below, “KAREN” sits above “MILLEN” in black uppercase letters. The first archived image presents the lettering against a dark ground, while this one makes the letterforms easier to see. Both images show a name-led mark rather than a symbol-and-word combination.
???? – Today

This archive stage shows the two-line uppercase wordmark. The heading’s start date is unknown, so it does not establish when this form was introduced. Karen Millen’s own site uses the logo, and the Debenhams Group FY26 annual report lists Karen Millen among its brands and reports planned AW26 store launches (Karen Millen About Us; Debenhams Group Annual Report FY26).
The brand began in 1981, when Karen Millen and Kevin Stanford started making and selling cotton shirts. Its own account describes the venture as beginning with a £100 loan and 1,000 metres of cotton (Karen Millen About Us).
Ownership changed after the founders’ early period. BBC News reported that Baugur Group bought Karen Millen in 2004, with its retail group Oasis taking control; Mosaic Fashions was created to house the brand in 2005. After Mosaic’s 2009 collapse and transition to Aurora Fashions, Karen Millen separated from Aurora in 2011 (BBC News; Retail Week).
In 2019, Karen Millen’s operating companies entered administration, and boohoo group plc acquired the online businesses and associated intellectual property for £18.2 million. The parent company later became Debenhams Group, which reports Karen Millen as a portfolio brand (boohoo group plc announcement; Debenhams Group Annual Report FY26).
