Webuild S.p.A. is the Italian construction group formerly known as Salini Impregilo. In January 2020, the company’s board approved a proposal to rename the group Webuild, a name intended to evoke the company’s vision through the verb “Build,” representing the DNA of an infrastructure constructor, and the pronoun “We,” expressing the fundamental role of people and teams.[1] The rebranding was part of the group’s “Progetto Italia” growth plan, and the Salini Impregilo name was phased out from group companies, including the contracting business bearing the name.[2]
Design and History
The Webuild logo retains the globe symbol that had been an established part of the group’s identity. The design agency Inarea, a partner of the group since 2015, enhanced the globe with a rotational effect created by five compositional lines, the five “whirls,” evoking both dynamism and the group’s global presence across five continents.[3] The company’s official announcement confirmed that the logo with the five graphic elements “whirls” would be kept, a deliberate choice to underpin the solid foundations built over time while introducing the new name.[1]
Meaning and Symbolism
The five “whirls” of the globe symbol are documented as representing the group’s presence across five continents, with the rotational effect of the compositional lines conveying dynamism.[3] The naming itself carries documented meaning: “We” reflects the human and collaborative dimension of the group, while “build” highlights its focus on work, technical expertise, and forward-thinking vision.[3]
Typography and Design
For the new name, Inarea developed a proprietary sans-serif font called “Webuild Type,” designed to ensure clarity and readability across all touchpoints, both physical and digital.[3] The company’s press release confirmed the creation of this proprietary font, the “We Build type” font, as part of the brand identity system, representing the continuous evolution of the group’s brand identity.[1] The visual identity is built around a set of primary colors: red, white, black, and three shades of gray, with a complementary color palette developed for flexibility in communications.[3]
