Bitonic is a Dutch bitcoin-only trading platform founded in 2012 as the first bitcoin company in the Netherlands. The company’s visual identity has undergone at least two significant phases, most recently a 2024 rebrand that introduced a new logo, fresh colors, and a modern font.
Design and History
Bitonic originally launched under the name Idealcoin, but changed to “Bitonic,” an anagram of bitcoin, shortly afterward because the original name was a protected identity.[1]
In June 2024, Bitonic announced the launch of a renewed identity alongside a new advertising campaign. The company stated that the new logo, fresh colors, and modern font better reflect what Bitonic stands for: long-term thinking and stability.[2]
Prior to the 2024 refresh, Bitonic worked with Amsterdam-based digital agency Digital Natives on a broader brand identity project following the Bitcoin craze of 2017. Digital Natives conducted brand key workshops with founders and stakeholders to develop a new brand essence for the company.[3]
Meaning and Symbolism
The brand identity work led by Digital Natives produced a new brand essence for Bitonic: “Take control.” This phrase references the principles of Bitcoin, where each individual can gain control over their own financial resources without the intervention of a bank or central government. The term is used extensively in Bitonic’s internal communication and is central to its external communication.[3]
Digital Natives noted that significant attention was paid to improving the authority and appearance of Bitonic without losing its rebellious character.[3]
Typography and Design
Bitonic’s 2024 identity update introduced a modern font as part of the new look.[2] The specific typeface used in the current wordmark has not been publicly identified by Bitonic or its design partners.
