Bread Financial is a tech-forward financial services company headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, offering payment, lending and saving solutions.[1] The company was formerly known as Alliance Data Systems Corporation and changed its name to Bread Financial Holdings, Inc. in March 2022.[2] The rebrand unified the company’s prior market-facing brands under a single name for the first time.[3]
Design and History
The current Bread Financial logo consists of a stylized letter “B” inside a shaded circle, with the words “BREAD” and “FINANCIAL” in lowercase letters to the right of the circle, with “BREAD” positioned above “FINANCIAL”.[4] The same circular “B” mark is used across the company’s product brands, including Bread Rewards and Bread Savings, each pairing the symbol with its respective wordmark.[5][6]
The identity was introduced in March 2022 when Alliance Data officially rebranded as Bread Financial.[7] The name itself was not new: it previously belonged to the buy-now-pay-later startup that Alliance Data acquired in December 2020.[3] The rebrand reflected the company’s transformation into a modern, tech-forward financial services provider.[8]
Prior to the 2022 rebrand, the Bread brand had already undergone a visual refresh. In a 2017 Dribbble post, the Bread team announced a complete revamp of its branding, crediting the design agency Focus Lab for the new logo and colors.[9]
Meaning and Symbolism
The circular emblem format is documented in the company’s trademark filings, which describe the mark as a stylized letter “B” inside a shaded circle.[4] Beyond this official description, no documented symbolism for the circle or the letterform has been published by the company or its design agency.
Typography and Design
The wordmark uses lowercase lettering for both “BREAD” and “FINANCIAL”, with the two words stacked to the right of the circular emblem.[4] The specific typeface used in the logo has not been publicly documented by the company or its design agency.
