ICON is a blockchain network launched in 2017, supported by the ICON Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to building infrastructure that connects blockchains. The project’s visual identity underwent a complete redesign in November 2021, timed to the launch of the ICON 2.0 network upgrade.
Design and History
In November 2021, the ICON Foundation announced that the ICON logo and website had been completely redesigned to coincide with the ICON 2.0 upgrade, a new blockchain architecture built for DeFi applications and cross-chain interoperability. The foundation described the new logo as embodying the brand’s strong growth since its 2017 conception, noting that the brand had matured and “deserves a fresh new capitalized and hyper-fast italic look.” [1]
The official ICON branding kit, hosted at icon.community, provides downloadable logo assets and guidelines for correctly handling ICON’s brand materials, including instructions for using assets and gradients to maximize the impact of ICON projects. [2] Official logo files are also referenced in ICON’s validator documentation, which lists SVG and PNG versions hosted on the icon.foundation domain. [3]
As of 2026, the ICON Network is being formally retired for its full transition into SODAX, a cross-chain execution layer for DeFi, with the network permanently shutting down on December 31, 2026. [4]
Meaning and Symbolism
The ICON Foundation’s official announcement describes the 2021 redesign as a reflection of the brand’s growth and maturity since its 2017 launch. The foundation explicitly tied the new visual direction to the network’s technological advancement, stating that the new logo embodies the brand’s strong growth and that the fresh capitalized and hyper-fast italic look was appropriate for the matured brand.
