Synthetix is a decentralized finance protocol on Ethereum that enables the creation and trading of synthetic assets, called Synths, which track the prices of real-world assets including currencies, commodities and equities. The project’s visual identity centers on a cyan logomark and logotype, with the brand color officially recorded as #00D1FF.
Design and History
The Synthetix brand emerged from a rebranding of the Havven project in late 2018. Havven announced it was transforming into Synthetix to better reflect the system’s primary function: enabling the creation of on-chain synthetic assets. The name change was accompanied by new terminology across the ecosystem, including the token HAV becoming SNX and nomins becoming Synths. The rebrand was described as a refinement of the project’s purpose, reached after consultation with community members.[1]
In August 2020, Synthetix introduced a new visual brand. The updated logotype and logomark were selected to better represent ideas like transformation, innovation and counterculture. According to the official announcement, the colour palette and shape represent a willingness to stand out and move forward with conviction, while the energy and strength of the logomark embody the Synthetix community and its desire to debate ideas and push forward change.[2]
The 2020 brand update also included a full overhaul of the Synthetix.io website, a refresh of the Synth icons to connect them more closely to the Synthetix brand, and rebranded documentation. The Synth icons were updated with increased visual consistency, with Synths representing long positions and short positions (Inverse Synths) clearly signified with pink outlines.[2]
Meaning and Symbolism
The official Synthetix brand color is Synthetix Cyan, recorded as #00D1FF.[3] The same hex value was submitted as the brand color in a proposal to add Synthetix to the ethereum.org dapp directory.[4]
The official announcement does not provide a detailed breakdown of individual geometric elements or their specific meanings.[2]
Typography and Design
Synthetix maintains a public assets repository on GitHub containing reusable assets from the Synthetix ecosystem, including SVG files for Synths and related brand elements.[5] [6]
