Mutoh is a Japanese manufacturer of wide-format inkjet printers and sign cutting plotters, founded in 1952 in Tokyo as a maker of mechanical drafting tables.[1] The company operates globally through subsidiaries including Mutoh Europe nv, headquartered in Ostend, Belgium, which serves as the EMEA headquarters.[2] In 2026, the MUTOH Group became a member of the Brother Industries, Ltd. Group.[3]
Design and History
The current MUTOH wordmark was designed by The Design Associates, a Japanese design firm. The project brief for the new logo design was to preserve the company’s existing impression while enhancing a more refined technological image, with technology and trust as the core themes.[4]
In 2022, the MUTOH Group introduced a special 70th anniversary logo to mark the company’s founding in 1952.[5] The anniversary mark was designed based on the four basic ink colors of CMYK, symbolizing MUTOH’s legacy of supporting monozukuri (excellence in manufacturing), and represents the strong mechanical driving system of printers and drafters.[5]
Meaning and Symbolism
For the 70th anniversary logo, the CMYK color scheme represents the idea that the company will continue to provide printers that make bright and colorful expressions possible.[5] The design also references the mechanical driving system of printers and drafters, reflecting the company’s engineering heritage.[5]
