Entergy Corporation, the New Orleans-based electric utility serving customers across Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, introduced its current corporate brand and refreshed logo on February 7, 2022. The update was the company’s first new logotype in more than 30 years, replacing a familiar red circle with a checkered bottom half that had served as Entergy’s mark since the late 1980s.[1]
Design and History
The 2022 logo consists of a stylized lowercase letter “e” rendered in red, purple and blue, positioned beside the company name in all lowercase letters. The wordmark, which was previously italicized, is no longer italicized in the new design.[1] A trademark application filed by Entergy in March 2022 describes the mark as a stylized letter “e” and claims red and purple as features of the mark.[2]
Entergy announced the rebrand as part of a broader company transformation, with CEO Leo Denault describing the goal of becoming “a driving force for innovation and cutting-edge products and services.” The company stated that the updated logo, which had not been changed in more than 30 years, was intended to honor Entergy’s history while setting new ambitions for the future.[3]
The visual transformation was designed over a six-month period and was planned to roll out across outdoor signage, transit advertising and other company touchpoints.[4] No external design agency has been publicly credited for the rebrand.
Meaning and Symbolism
Entergy described the vibrant colors of the new logo as expressing an “innovative, customer-focused mindset” and reflecting “the rich texture of our Gulf South home with warmth, respect and honesty.”[3] The company framed the new visual identity as part of its aspiration to become the premier electric utility and deliver “a cleaner, brighter and more sustainable future.”[3]
Entergy declined to disclose the cost of the rebrand, emphasizing instead that the new look and logo represented more than a visual change, signaling a commitment to improving how the company communicates with customers.[5]
Typography and Design
The current logo pairs a lowercase letter “e” emblem with the company name set in lowercase lettering. The previous wordmark, which had been in use for over three decades, featured an italicized treatment that was dropped in the 2022 update.[1] The stylized “e” is described in Entergy’s trademark filing as a standalone design element, with red and purple claimed as colors of the mark.[2]
