Falck Renewables S.p.A. was an Italian renewable energy company that operated under a wordmark identity developed around the concept of being an “enabler” of sustainable transition. The company announced in November 2022 that it would rebrand as Renantis, following its acquisition by institutional investors advised by J.P. Morgan Investment Management through Green BidCo S.p.A. and subsequent delisting.[1]
Design and History
In 2021, Falck Renewables introduced a new brand identity and positioning developed by Logotel, an Italian design company. The project involved stakeholder interviews with the company’s entire first line of management, from which the brand attributes of being “Innovating, Competent and Caring” were defined.[2]
The identity was built around the concept of the “enabler,” described as someone or something that gives power to others to achieve their goals. This positioning became part of the logo itself, with the tagline “pure power to grow” incorporated into the mark.[2] The phrase “FALCK RENEWABLES PURE POWER TO GROW” was registered as a trademark by FALCK S.p.A. in May 2020.[3]
Logotel’s team of content designers, copywriters, branding experts, service designers, art directors, developers and visual designers supported Falck Renewables in developing the revised identity system, including for all of the company’s sub-brands.[2]
In November 2022, Falck Renewables announced the evolution of its brand to Renantis at the Key Energy 2022 trade fair in Rimini, Italy. The rebranding project was developed through a bottom-up process involving internal and external stakeholders.[4]
Meaning and Symbolism
The 2021 Falck Renewables identity was centered on the idea of being an enabler of sustainability. According to Logotel, “an enabler is someone that gives power to others to achieve their goals,” just as pure and sustainable energy facilitates people to live, sustain and thrive.[2]
The successor Renantis identity was described as presenting “a fresh visual identity, with colours and designs that are warm and close to nature.” The name “Renantis” is an abstract word inspired by the Latin term “renovare,” meaning “to renew,” and the logo design was said to reflect the Group’s intrinsic values with sustainability at the core.[4]
