Coffee Stain Studios AB is a Swedish video game developer based in Skövde, founded in 2010 by nine University of Skövde students. The studio is best known for Goat Simulator and Satisfactory, and operates as part of the Coffee Stain Group, a developer and publisher of community-driven games.[1]
Design and History
The current Coffee Stain logo has been in use since 2016, replacing an earlier mark used from 2010 to 2016.[2][3] The 2016 update coincided with a period of growth for the company, which had gained international recognition following the release of Goat Simulator in 2014.[4]
In 2017, Coffee Stain Studios registered a figurative mark (Bildmarke) with the European Union Intellectual Property Office. The trademark filing, submitted on 27 April 2017 and registered on 23 August 2017, lists the mark’s colors as blue, light blue, black, dark pink, white, dark grey, and light grey.[5] The company also holds a separate wordmark registration for “COFFEE STAIN STUDIOS,” filed in November 2011 and registered in May 2012.[6]
Meaning and Symbolism
The company name references a coffee stain, a playful nod reflected in the brand’s identity. The 2016 logo redesign was part of a broader brand refresh described as a “complete rework” of the company’s visual identity, resulting in a “brand new and more grown up” look that extended beyond the logo to include the website, stationery, and even design guidelines for the company’s office space.[7]
Typography and Design
The current Coffee Stain wordmark is a typographic logo that places the company name at the center of the identity. Brand asset databases list the logo’s primary color as a brownish-orange tone (hex #AB744B, named “Santa Fe”), along with supporting colors including a light beige (Satin Linen) and a dark rosewood tone.[8] The exact typeface used in the wordmark has not been publicly documented.
