BIOCAD is a Russian biopharmaceutical company founded in 2001, operating as a full-cycle developer and manufacturer of medicines for oncology, autoimmune, and infectious diseases.[1][2] Its visual identity centers on a wordmark in which the letters “OC” are replaced by a stylized green ribbon shaped like an infinity sign.
Design and History
The current BIOCAD logo is a typographic wordmark. The letters “BI” and “AD” appear in black capitalized letters, while the letters “OC” are rendered as a shaded form of light green and dark green in a Figure 8 design.[3] The mark was registered as a trademark with the description “BIOCAD Biopharmaceutical Company,” with the phrase “Biotechnology Company” noted as an unprotected element.[4]
An earlier international trademark filing for the logo dates to May 2006, filed by Joint Stock Company “BIOCAD.”[5] A later Russian trademark registration for the mark was filed in October 2015 and granted in November 2016.[4] An additional Russian trademark for the BIOCAD name was registered in January 2022.[6]
Meaning and Symbolism
The ribbon element is formally described as a “green volume ribbon” with a color swatch from dark green to light green, formed as an infinity sign (a numerical character “8” turned around 90 degrees) with an unclosed second ring. The design is described as a stylized representation of the letters “OC.”[7] The infinity symbol is also listed as a design code in the US trademark record.[3]
Colors claimed as features of the mark are black, light green, and dark green.[8] A Russian trademark record for the mark specifies the color combination as black and dark green.[9]
