The Qube Hotel is a hospitality brand operated under the Greenland Hotel Management International Group, with properties primarily located in China and one in Chiba, Japan. The Japanese property, The QUBE Hotel Chiba, opened in 2020 after rebranding the former Candeo Hotels Chiba location in Chiba Port Square.[1]
Design and History
The Qube Hotel brand name derives from the word “cube,” and the brand identity incorporates cube-related elements. A design description for a Q Hotel property in Suining, China, notes that the interior was “inspired by the 6 facets of the QUBE,” with the hotel zoned into six areas symbolizing characteristics including “Q Diversity” and “Q Challenge.” The same description states that “Q brand identity and QUBE elements are blended in the design to create diversity and uniqueness.”[2]
The Qube Hotel brand in China is associated with Greenland Hotels, a hospitality arm of the Greenland Group. A China Daily report from 2017 described the upcoming Qube Hotel Shanghai Hongqiao as featuring “environmentally friendly holographic materials to echo the company’s name, Greenland.”[3]
The Chiba property has a documented history of name changes tied to ownership transitions. According to a Japanese Wikipedia entry, the building was previously operated as Candeo Hotels Chiba until that hotel closed in May 2020, after which the property reopened as The QUBE Hotel Chiba.[1] A travel blog documenting a stay at the hotel notes that the building, completed in 1993, had previously operated under several names including Hotel Pacific Chiba, Wishton Hotel Chiba, Toyoko Inn Chiba Port Square, Hotel Green Tower Chiba, and Candeo Hotels Chiba.[4]
The hotel’s official website displays the brand name “THE QUBE HOTEL CHIBA” prominently, with the tagline “Life is a wonderful journey!”[5]
Meaning and Symbolism
The cube motif is central to the Qube brand concept. The design description for the Suining Q Hotel explains that the cube’s six facets were used as a structuring device for the hotel’s spatial layout, with each zone representing a different “Q” characteristic.[2] This suggests the cube form functions as both a naming reference and a conceptual framework for the brand’s visual and spatial identity.
Typography and Design
Documented typography details for the Qube Hotel logo are limited. The official Chiba hotel website renders the brand name “THE QUBE HOTEL CHIBA” in a straightforward sans-serif style, but no official documentation of the typeface, its designer, or specific construction details has been published in accessible sources.[5] Similarly, no official color specifications for the logo have been confirmed through primary sources. The claim of a navy (#253a4b) palette cannot be verified against official brand documentation and should be treated as unconfirmed.
