Nieswand Verlag is a German publisher based in Kiel, founded and managed by Jens Nieswand, with a program focused on books about jazz.[1] The company has operated under the names Nieswand Verlag GmbH and Nieswand-Verlag GmbH, with its address at Werftbahnstr. 8 in Kiel.[2]
Design and History
Nieswand Verlag has published jazz photography books since at least 1990, including works by photographers such as Bob Willoughby, Ed van der Elsken, Jan Putfarcken, and Ingo Wulff.[3][4] The publisher has also released titles like Jazz in Time: The Book (2003), a collection of photographs from the Ingolstadt Jazz Festivals.[5]
Jens Nieswand, the publisher’s managing director, was also a co-founder of the Achterbahn Verlag in 1991, known for the Werner comic series, and later served as its sole board member.[6] After the Achterbahn AG filed for insolvency in 2002, some of its individual companies, including Nieswand Druck, were continued as GmbHs.[7]
Despite the publisher’s long activity in jazz book publishing, no official documentation of a specific Nieswand Verlag logo, its designer, or a 1986 founding date could be verified in available sources. The publisher’s website (nieswandverlag.de) was not accessible during research, and no archival records of a distinct visual identity were found.
Given the absence of verifiable evidence about the publisher’s logo, its design history, or any documented symbolism, this entry is limited to the identity information that could be confirmed through reliable sources.
