FC Haka is a Finnish football club from Valkeakoski, founded in 1934. The club’s visual identity is built around a crest that has been refined several times, most notably for the club’s 80th and 90th anniversary years. The current mark is closely tied to the parent organization Valkeakosken Haka Ry, from which it was deliberately differentiated in 2014.
Design and History
In February 2014, FC Haka launched a new logo to mark its 80th anniversary year. The refreshed logo incorporated the club’s founding year, 1934, into the design. The club announced the update jointly with FC Haka Juniors and Haka Gym, all of which shared the anniversary logo.[1]
Less than a month later, FC Haka announced a small refinement to the anniversary logo, which the club stated would also be used in the years to come. According to the club, the updated logo made the football element more prominent, helping it stand apart from the logo of the parent organization Valkeakosken Haka Ry.[2]
For the club’s 90th anniversary in 2024, a separate anniversary logo was designed by Jenni Saukkonen of Happy Creative Oy. Saukkonen described the anniversary logo as stylistically related to the club logo but a distinct entity of its own, intended to give the anniversary year its own visibility. She stated that in the design she wanted to honor the old and emphasize locality, calling Haka “our own club for the people of Valkeakoski.”[3]
Meaning and Symbolism
Documented symbolism for the FC Haka crest is limited. The club’s official communications confirm that the 2014 adjustment was made specifically so the football element would be more visible and the FC Haka logo would be more clearly distinguished from that of the parent club Valkeakosken Haka Ry.[2] For the 2024 anniversary mark, the designer stated the goal was to honor tradition and emphasize local identity in Valkeakoski.[3]
The club’s traditional colors are white and black, as documented in Finnish football color records.[4]
