IK Sirius Fotboll is the football section of the Swedish multi-sport club Idrottsklubben Sirius, based in Uppsala. The club competes in Allsvenskan, Sweden’s top football division, and is known by the nickname “Blåsvart” (Blue-Black).[1] The club’s visual identity is governed by the parent association IK Sirius, which also includes bandy and floorball sections, all sharing the same shield emblem as their primary brand mark.[2]
Design and History
The IK Sirius club emblem is a shield in blue, divided by a vertical black band with a five-pointed yellow star set in its lower section. Above the star, the club name “SIRIUS” appears in silver lettering on a black plate.[3] The shield is described in the club’s visual identity guidelines as the alliance’s main brand mark, used consistently across all member clubs.[2]
Until the 2005 season, the yellow star was a prominent element on the club’s match jerseys. Following an update and modernization of the visual identity, the star was removed from the chest after 2005, and the current club emblem took its place on the kits.[4] In 2022, to celebrate the club’s 115th anniversary, Sirius played a home match against BK Häcken in a special historical jersey that replaced the regular club emblem with a yellow Sirius star on the chest.[5] The club chairman at the time described the star as having been “a big part of Sirius’s visual identity for many years.”[6]
In January 2025, IK Sirius announced an updated visual identity. The new guidelines included an expanded color palette, new typefaces, new graphic elements, and instructions for how the member clubs may use the star on the chest, now referred to as the “historical emblem” in the visual identity documentation.[7] The yellow Sirius star with the club logotype in the middle returned to the match jerseys for the 2025 season.[8]
Meaning and Symbolism
The club’s nickname “Blåsvart” (Blue-Black) reflects the two primary colors of the shield and match kits.[1] The yellow star has been described by club officials as a significant part of Sirius’s club history, having been a vital element of the match kit before the 2005 redesign.[4] The star’s return in 2025 was framed by the club as a nod to that heritage, with the star serving as a historical emblem on the chest.[7]
Typography and Design
The 2018 visual identity guidelines for IK Sirius specify the club’s primary colors, including “Sirius Blå” (Sirius Blue) and “Sirius Svart” (Sirius Black), along with designated typography for consistent brand use across the alliance clubs.[2] The 2025 update introduced new typefaces and an expanded color palette to the visual identity system.[7]
