Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC is an American soccer club based in Windsor, Colorado, that launched as a USL League One expansion team and began play in 2022 at Future Legends Complex.[1] The club unveiled its name and crest on July 15, 2021, after seeking community input on its brand.[2]
Design and History
The crest was created by Christopher Payne, a soccer brand designer who has designed crests for teams across the United States and England.[3] Payne described the process as a four-month effort, saying, “I am extremely proud of the brand that we have created. The crest is bold and striking and has so many references to the local area.”[2]
The crest uses a shield shape that “anchors the club in football tradition” while displaying features that represent the community.[4] A mountain range sits at the peak of the crest, described by the club as “prominent, strong, and enduring.”[4] Characteristic to the Northern Colorado region, hailstones slash through the crest “with speed and precision to represent the competitive nature this football club will bring day in and day out.”[4]
The brand plays homage to the iconic weather that Northern Coloradans experience and was created with input from the local community.[3] The club’s brand colors feature “streamlined and classic tones of navy, tan, gray and white shades,” referencing the naturally occurring beauty of Northern Colorado.[3]
In 2025, the club joined The League for Clubs, a new league, and played in the Mountain Premier Conference.[5] The club also participated in the 2025 NISA Pro Cup.[6] No visual redesign of the crest has been documented in connection with these league changes.
Meaning and Symbolism
The Hailstorm name and crest reference the hailstorms characteristic to the Northern Colorado region.[4] The mountain range at the crest’s peak symbolizes prominence, strength, and endurance.[7] The hailstones slashing through the crest represent the competitive nature the club intends to bring to the pitch.[4]
The brand colors of navy, tan, gray, and white shades signify the naturally occurring beauty of Northern Colorado.[8] Hailstorm FC Owner and Future Legends CEO Jeff Katofsky said the brand “echoes the beauty and strength of the power of Mother Nature.”[3]
