Post Eagles is the athletic identity of Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut. The university competes athletically as the Eagles, with “Swoop” serving as the mascot, and its official colors are purple and orange.[1][2]
Design and History
The current Post University athletic mark is a stylized eagle standing upright. According to the university’s trademark filing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the eagle’s head is white and outlined in purple, with an orange beak. The talons are orange and white, also outlined in purple.[3]
This eagle identity replaced an earlier visual era tied to the university’s historic Camperdown elm tree, which once served as the backdrop for the university’s logo.[1] In early August 2017, Post University contemporized its brand under the tagline “Post Makes It Personal,” creating a new visual identity to symbolize the university’s evolution.[4] The rebrand shifted the university’s colors from green to purple and orange.[5]
The 2017 change was not without controversy. A petition titled “Demand the return of the Camperdown Elm Logo for Post” was started on July 24, 2017, objecting to the replacement of the university’s historic image and iconography.[6]
Meaning and Symbolism
The university’s brand guide describes the Post University icon as one of its most identifiable assets. The icon contains the letter “P” for Post and the letter “U” for University.[7] The trademark description confirms the eagle mark incorporates the stylized “U” in orange on the left, white on the right and bottom, and purple in between.[3]
Typography and Design
Post University’s brand guide, released in Version 3.0, includes updated school logos, colors, typography, and brand elements.[8] The guide specifies two core colors, Post Purple and Post Orange, each supported by two complementary purple and orange tones, along with a four-color set of grays.[7]
In February 2024, Post University Athletics launched a website update through SideArm Sports, noting the goal of aligning the site’s color scheme and branding to mirror the branding of Post University’s education website.[9]
