Sivasspor, the Turkish football club based in Sivas, uses a shield-shaped crest in red and white. The club’s official website provides vector logo files for use on light and dark backgrounds as part of its corporate identity guidelines.[1]
Design and History
Sivasspor was founded on 9 May 1967 through the merger of three amateur clubs: Yolspor, Kızılırmak and Sivas Gençlik.[2] The club’s red and white colors were decided at its founding, and three stars were placed on the logo to represent the three merged clubs.[2]
The current crest is a red-and-white shield featuring the club name at the top, three white stars above it, an interlocking “SS” monogram in the center, and the foundation year 1967 in the lower left.[3] The “SS” monogram stands for Sivasspor, while the 1967 date marks the creation of the modern professional club.[3]
In late 2004, the club introduced a double-headed Seljuk eagle figure on its kits, which was designed by Bülent Uygun and approved by the club management.[4] According to Sivasspor vice president Mehmet Oflaz, the change was made because Sivas is a Seljuk city and the double-headed eagle figure represents this historical symbol.[5] Oflaz emphasized that the three stars were not removed, noting they remained present on club products.[4]
Meaning and Symbolism
The three stars in the Sivasspor crest represent the three founding clubs that merged to form Sivasspor in 1967: Yolspor, Kızılırmak and Sivas Gençlik.[5] The red and white flag in the emblem and the three stars symbolizing the three founding clubs are documented elements of the crest’s meaning.[6]
The double-headed eagle figure introduced in 2004 draws on the Seljuk heritage of Sivas, a city that served as a significant center during the Seljuk period.[5]
