Venezia FC, the Italian football club based in the lagoon city of Venice, introduced its current visual identity in two stages: a complete redesign in 2022 by Munich-based design studio Bureau Borsche, followed by a color-focused update in June 2026. The badge centers on the Lion of Saint Mark, the winged lion that serves as the symbol of Venice, integrated into a stylized “V” crest.
Design and History
On 1 July 2022, Venezia FC presented a new brand identity created by Bureau Borsche, the Munich-based design studio known for work with clients including Balenciaga, Supreme, Apple, Nike and Inter. The studio had previously designed the club’s website and web shop in 2021 and had worked in Venice in 2019 on the image of the Padiglione Venezia for the Biennale.[1]
Bureau Borsche designed a “V” crest that reinterprets the Lion of Saint Mark in a more minimal and abstract form, producing a lion described by the club as sleeker, more aggressive and more elegant than the one it replaced. The horizontal lines representing the lion’s wings reference the traditional iron prow of the Venetian gondola with its protruding blades. The “V” is framed by the club colors, orange and green, which on close inspection resemble flags.[1][2]
The 2022 redesign also restored the lion to gold. According to the club, the lion had been gold for most of its 114-year history, switching to white in the logo only from 1997 to 2005, then returning in 2013 and again from 2015 until the 2022 change.[1] Venezia FC’s chief marketing officer Ted Philipakos explained that the outgoing crest, designed in 2015, had been problematic, and that the club had stopped using it entirely in 2020, isolating the lion and switching it to gold as a stopgap measure before the full redesign.[2]
On 1 June 2026, Venezia FC updated the logo again, four years after the previous redesign and ahead of the club’s return to Serie A for the 2026-27 season. The most visible change was the color of the stylized “V” with the Lion of Saint Mark, which changed from gold to black. The orange and green blocks above the “V” remained but received a slight tonal revision.[3][4] The updated logo, in orange, black and green, went into use on all official communications and platforms from that date.[5]
Meaning and Symbolism
The Lion of Saint Mark, the winged lion that stands as the symbol of the city of Venice, has always been at the heart of the Venezia FC brand.[1] In the 2022 crest, the lion’s wings are represented by horizontal lines that reference the traditional iron prow of the Venetian gondola.[1]
The orange and green elements framing the “V” were designed to resemble flags, and the club describes them as its colors.[1] The 2026 update confirmed and redefined the club’s three historical colors, orange, black and green, with the black “V” giving the crest a stronger arancioneroverde (orange-black-green) identity.[6][7]
In September 2026, Venezia FC and NOCTA introduced an alternative winged lion emblem alongside the main logo, debuting on the Third Jersey 26/27. This alternative crest features six wing feathers representing the six sestieri (districts) of Venice, and the lion’s paws resting on a ball whose stitching traces the curves of the Grand Canal and the Giudecca Canal. The mane movement recalls the silhouette of the Corno Dogale, the traditional Venetian doge’s horn. The club stated this new emblem does not replace the existing logo but expands its visual language.[8]
