France tv is the unified media brand of France Télévisions, the French public broadcasting group. Since June 6, 2025, the france.tv logo has replaced the individual channel logos of France 2, France 3, France 4 and France 5 on screen, appearing in the top right corner of broadcasts as a single “marque média unique” (unique media brand).[1][2]

Design and History

The france.tv wordmark emerged from a broader visual identity overhaul that France Télévisions introduced on January 29, 2018. That redesign, the group’s first major visual change since 2002, centered on a colored dot placed before each channel’s number. The dot was conceived as the unifying symbol of France Télévisions, with each channel adapting it according to its identity: France 2 claimed it as the first channel, France 3 played it as a triptych, France 4 used it playfully, and France 5 multiplied it to evoke a diversity of viewpoints.[3] The design work was handled by agencies Movement (on-air branding) and Joosnabhan (brand strategy), at a reported cost of 90,000 euros plus 50,000 euros for usage rights.[3]

Philippe Delœuvre, then director of brand at France Télévisions, explained that the dot gave the brand a useful meaning, as it also became the URL of the group’s video platform, france.tv. The redesign was initiated two years prior to serve the group’s digital transformation, aligning linear channels with digital offerings.[4]

In March 2025, France Télévisions announced that the france.tv logo would replace the individual channel logos on air from June 6, 2025. President Delphine Ernotte-Cunci framed the move as necessary for recognition in a crowded media landscape: “In a sector with a plethora of brands and content, the only way to be identified is to carry a unique media brand.”[2] The change coincided with a renumbering of channels on French digital terrestrial television.[1] Exceptions were made for franceinfo, the regional brand Ici (shared with Radio France), and the youth offering Okoo, which retained their own logos.[5]

Meaning and Symbolism

The dot in the france.tv identity is borrowed from digital grammar, linking the brand to its online platform. In the 2018 system, the dot appeared in different colors for each channel: red for France 2, blue for France 3, and so on.[6] Éric Rinaldi, artistic director at France Télévisions, stated: “Our entire brand system rests on the dot. This dot symbolizes France Télévisions.”[4]

Typography and Design

The 2018 redesign introduced a new corporate typeface, FTVBrown, replacing Heldustry which had been in use since 2002. The new typeface was described as rounder and was already in use by the franceinfo channel and website.[4][3]
