OVO, short for October’s Very Own, is a Toronto-founded streetwear and lifestyle brand co-founded in 2008 by Aubrey “Drake” Graham, Oliver El-Khatib and Noah “40” Shebib. The name refers to Drake’s birth month, October, and the brand’s most recognizable visual is its owl emblem. Music Business Worldwide reports the founding and co-founders, while WWD’s reporting via Yahoo Finance explains the name’s birth-month reference.

Meaning and history

The emblem combines an owl with the letters O, V and O. In the familiar front-facing design, the round O shapes form the eyes and the V makes the pointed beak; the wider outline completes the bird. The lettering can also be read as “OvO,” a visual echo of the owl noted in Complex’s archived OVO timeline. WWD has connected the owl to Drake’s “night owl lifestyle.”

The design is effective as a standalone emblem: the bird remains legible without a separate brand name beside it. Some versions pair the owl with an OVO wordmark, while others use the owl alone. The color and scale can change, but the recognizable eyes, pointed beak and bird outline carry across these treatments.

The identity accompanied OVO’s move from an online platform into clothing. Complex dates the blog to 2008, an OVO and Canada Goose Chilliwack parka to November 2010, and the OVO and Roots apparel collaboration to 2011. The OVO webshop opened in October 2012, according to the same timeline.

This display uses a gold-outline owl on white, making the circular eyes and sharp V-shaped beak easy to pick out. The owl identity remains in use in 2026, alongside a black-and-gold palette, according to WWD and Retail Insider. In August 2026, Authentic Brands Group acquired a 51 percent stake in OVO’s intellectual property; Drake retained 44 percent and Vince Holding Corp. took 5 percent. Music Business Worldwide reports the ownership split.

The owl also appeared across OVO’s collaborations and retail expansion. The OVO Sound record label, founded in 2012, is a distinct entity from the apparel brand. OVO opened its first Toronto store in 2014; later store openings included New York in 2016, Vancouver in 2018 and Chicago in 2019, according to the OVO Sound entry. The owl was also adapted for collaborations, including a two-owl design in the 2019 OVO and Dsquared2 capsule, reported by WWD.

The image here pairs the owl with an OVO wordmark. It is an owl-and-wordmark treatment, not the separate OVO Sound label mark. OVO Sound was founded in 2012 by Drake, 40 and El-Khatib; its distinct identity should not be confused with the apparel brand’s owl. The label’s founding is recorded in the OVO Sound entry.

Connection with the Illuminati emblems

OVO emblem

This version renders the owl in a black outline rather than gold. Its eyes, pointed beak and body follow the same basic design as the other emblem treatments. The documented brand association is more direct than theories about secret societies: WWD links the owl to Drake’s “night owl lifestyle,” while the initials connect the image to October’s Very Own.

Font

Ovo Font

This image is an alphabet specimen, not a documented OVO typeface. The OVO lettering shown in the brand’s wordmark is bold and compact, with the central V meeting the two rounded O forms. That visual description does not establish a named font or a designer.

Color

This treatment reduces the wordmark to gold O and V forms on white, emphasizing how the letters can recall the owl’s eyes and beak even without its full outline. OVO’s signature palette is black and gold, though the owl’s color varies with its product context. WWD reports the black-and-gold identity.
