bZx was a decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol built on Ethereum for margin trading, borrowing, and lending, launched by bZeroX LLC and founded by Tom Bean and Kyle Kistner in 2017.[1][2] The protocol’s governance token, BZRX, was deployed in July 2020.[3] In late 2021, the project rebranded to Ooki, and the BZRX token was swapped and redenominated to OOKI at a 1:10 ratio.[4][5]
Design and History
In July 2021, bZx announced an upcoming rebrand that would include a new logo, brand identity, and platform design.[6] The stated goal was to modernize and simplify the branding while appealing to a wider audience of both crypto veterans and newcomers to DeFi.[6] The rebrand also included UI and UX improvements, new social channels, merchandise, and a move to a .com domain.[6]
On August 23, 2021, bZeroX transferred control of the bZx protocol to the bZx DAO, which subsequently renamed itself and began doing business as the Ooki DAO.[7] The protocol was renamed Ooki, and the BZRX token migration to OOKI began on November 28, 2021.[5] Binance completed the token swap and redenomination of BZRX to OOKI on December 24, 2021.[4]
Meaning and Symbolism
No official documentation has been found that describes the specific symbolism or design intent behind the bZx logo. The pre-rebrand mark was widely distributed as a square-format icon in crypto asset directories and token icon sets, but no primary source from the project explains its meaning.[8] The bZx wordmark appeared in a horizontal lockup alongside the icon in some applications.[9]
Because the project rebranded to Ooki in late 2021, the bZx identity is no longer in active use by the protocol.[10] The bZx mark survives primarily in historical contexts, token listings, and archived brand assets.
