Sampo Corporation, known in Chinese as 聲寶 (Shēngbǎo), is a Taiwan-based electronics and home appliance manufacturer listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange since 1970 under the trading code 1604.[1] The company’s visual identity has undergone two significant documented transformations: a hexagonal “S” mark introduced in 1982 and a red wordmark refresh announced in 2012.
Design and History
Sampo introduced its first major corporate identity system at the company’s 30th anniversary, adopting a new hexagonal “S” logo that was presented across domestic and international media.[2] The 1982 mark accompanied the slogan “trademark is responsibility” (商標就是責任), reflecting the company’s emphasis on brand accountability as it worked alongside Japanese partner Sharp while maintaining its own Chinese trademark.[2]
In November 2012, Sampo announced a new corporate logo as part of a broader brand transformation effort. The updated identity used a vivid red color intended to symbolize passion and revolution, accompanying the company’s push into smart energy-saving inverter products designed for Taiwanese lifestyles.[3] The 2012 refresh marked a departure from the earlier hexagonal emblem toward a typographic wordmark centered on the “SAMPO” name.
Meaning and Symbolism
The 1982 hexagonal “S” logo was introduced alongside the corporate philosophy “trademark is responsibility,” which communicated the company’s commitment to standing behind its products under its own brand name.[2] The 2012 logo’s red color was explicitly described by the company as representing passion and revolution, signaling a proactive rebranding as the company sought to modernize its image.[3]
