Gotham Games, Inc. was a short-lived American video game publisher and a wholly owned subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive. The company was founded in July 2002 and shut down in December 2003, operating for roughly 18 months as a publishing label focused on mass-market games and value-priced titles.[1]
Design and History
Gotham Games was launched on July 22, 2002, as a new publishing label under Take-Two Interactive. The label was created to publish content accessible to consumers of all ages at a variety of price points, including value-priced software for the PlayStation game console and select front-line titles across multiple platforms.[2] Jamie Leece, Take-Two’s vice president of publishing and business development, was named to head Gotham Games, which was based in Take-Two’s headquarters in New York City.[3]
The label published titles including Conflict: Desert Storm, the Xbox version of Serious Sam, Celebrity Deathmatch, and Austin Powers Pinball.[2]
On December 18, 2003, Take-Two CEO Jeffrey Lapin confirmed in a conference call that the company had “phased out Gotham Games as a publishing label” as part of a larger internal reorganization. Existing titles bearing the Gotham logo were to be distributed by Take-Two’s Gathering or Global Star labels depending on price point.[4]
