Club Atlético Argentino de Junín, commonly known as Argentino de Junín or simply Argentino, is a professional basketball club based in Junín, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. The club competes in the Liga Nacional de Básquet, the top tier of Argentine basketball, and its official colors are blue and white as registered with the league.[1] The club was founded on October 1, 1935, in the Barrio de Las Morochas neighborhood of Junín.[2]
Design and History
The club’s visual identity has centered on a blue and white palette, with the league listing blue as the primary color and white as the reserve color.[1] The crest has historically featured a lion motif. In 2011, when the club presented its new kit for the 2011/12 season, the design marked the return of the shield with the lion after it had been absent from recent uniforms. The kit itself returned to the traditional strong blue after previous seasons had used a lighter sky blue tone.[3]
For the 2025/26 season, Argentino de Junín updated its home jersey with a more minimalist design and a change in typography. The shirt features two electric blue stripes on the sides that are described as matching the club’s shield.[4]
Meaning and Symbolism
The lion has been a recurring element in the club’s crest, appearing on the shield that was restored to the uniform in 2011.[3] The club is nicknamed “Turco,” a reference used throughout its history and in local media coverage.[5] No official documentation has been found that explains the specific symbolic meaning behind the lion or other elements of the crest.
