Jamshedpur FC is an Indian Super League (ISL) club based in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, founded in 2017 and owned by Tata Steel. The club’s visual identity was introduced alongside its entry into the ISL, with the crest unveiled publicly on 23 July 2017 at the ISL 2017-18 Indian Player Draft in Mumbai.
Design and History
The Jamshedpur FC logo was designed by Agnimitra Paul, a Kolkata-based designer, and unveiled by club officials including head coach Steve Coppell at the ISL draft event.[1] The club’s official website describes the mark as a “classic round-shaped sigil” containing a shield-shaped section inside it.[2]
Within the shield, the design depicts a machine sculpting a football out of molten steel, a direct reference to the club’s Tata Steel origins and the Tata Group’s decades of football involvement through the Tata Football Academy.[2][3] The outer panel of the logo carries the club’s name in English alongside the Alchik alphabet, described as the original written symbol of a tribal language prevalent in the region.[2] The Fan Garage’s coverage of the unveiling similarly notes the outer panel features the club name in English along with Saura artwork.[3]
A separate logo launch ceremony was held in Jamshedpur on 26 July 2017, where Sunil Bhaskaran, Vice President (Corporate Services) at Tata Steel, officially launched the crest in the presence of Coppell and assistant coach Ishfaq Ahmed.[4]
Meaning and Symbolism
The central imagery of the crest is explicitly tied to the club’s industrial heritage. The shield section showing a machine forming a football from molten steel “references Jamshedpur FC’s Tata Steel origins,” according to the club’s own announcement.[2] The inclusion of the Alchik alphabet in the outer panel connects the identity to the tribal languages of the surrounding region.[2]
The club’s official colors are red and blue, which are reflected in the crest and in the team’s matchday kits.[5] A color reference guide records the Jamshedpur FC palette as including a deep blue (#114D8D), a lighter button blue (#2AAAE2), an alizarin crimson red (#EA2432), and a yellow accent (#FAED24).[6]
Typography and Design
The club’s official announcement confirms the outer panel of the logo spells the club name in English lettering, paired with the Alchik alphabet text.[2] No specific typeface name or designer attribution for the lettering has been documented in the available sources.
