Nyack Warriors was the athletic identity of Nyack College, a private Christian college affiliated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance and located in New York. The institution renamed itself Alliance University in 2022, and its teams continued to compete as the Warriors in NCAA Division II as members of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).[1]
Design and History
Nyack’s athletic teams were formerly known as the Purple Pride and, before that, the Fighting Parsons, before adopting the Warriors nickname.[1] The Fighting Parsons name referenced the institution’s ministerial training mission, while the shift to Warriors reflected a more competitive athletic identity.
The Warriors identity was used across Nyack’s NCAA Division II programs competing in the CACC.[1] In 2011, the men’s soccer team earned the program’s first bid to the Division II NCAA tournament.[1]
Following the college’s renaming to Alliance University, the institution’s official colors were listed as Dark Purple and Alliance Red.[1] The university closed in 2023.
Meaning and Symbolism
Documented sources confirm the Warriors nickname and the earlier Purple Pride and Fighting Parsons identities, but they do not provide official explanations of the symbolism behind the Warriors logo, its shield shape, or its color meanings.
