Paris Basketball is a French professional basketball club founded in 2018 and based in Paris.[1] The club unveiled its current visual identity on September 16, 2024, at a launch event held in the Gustave Eiffel lounges of the Eiffel Tower, ahead of its first EuroLeague season.[2]
Design and History
The 2024 identity replaced a previous logo that featured a stylized basketball in a roundel.[3] The new mark places an illuminated Eiffel Tower within a circular form, with the tower’s lines blending into the contours of a basketball.[4] The design was created by Parisian graphic designer Alexis Taïeb, known as Tyrsa, and coordinated by the YARD agency, which has shaped the club’s image since its founding in 2018.[2][5]
In six years of existence, Paris Basketball has used three different logos.[4] YARD states that it implemented the club’s first blue and red jersey and logo with the vision that “The Parisian brilliance does not always come from its shiniest places.”[6] The 2024 rebrand was introduced under a “Spark in the dark” positioning.[6]
Meaning and Symbolism
The identity centers on the concept of light, referencing Paris’s nickname as the “City of Light” as well as the spotlight on new sporting talent.[5] According to the club, the logo incorporates an illuminated Eiffel Tower that “draws energy from the talent and creativity of Greater Paris,” symbolized by a distinctive star featured across all branding elements.[2] The Eiffel Tower is shown with an illuminated summit, alluding to the “Ville Lumière” nickname.[4]
Tyrsa has said he initially did not want to use the Eiffel Tower but came to see it as “the most beautiful source of light in Paris.”[5] The club’s owners had reportedly asked for a logo without the Eiffel Tower, a request Tyrsa chose to override given the club’s international ambitions.[3] The logo retains the club’s usual colors of black, red, and blue.[4]
Typography and Design
The rebrand includes a bespoke typeface created by Tyrsa, inspired by classic basketball fonts and an old Parisian specimen.[5] The custom typeface is available in regular and italic styles and is used across jerseys, arena screens, and communication assets.[7] The light motif extends throughout the identity, appearing as a point on the letter “I” in the PARIS wordmark and as a shooting star forming the loop of the “P” in the monogram.[7]
