Stavanger Oilers, the professional ice hockey club based in Stavanger, Norway, uses a circular emblem in black, gold, and white as its primary mark. The club, whose official name is Stavanger Ishockeyklubb, is commonly known as Oilers and plays its home matches at DNB Arena.[1]
Design and History
The current circular logo was introduced in 2012 alongside a new jersey design. Ahead of the 2012 season, the club unveiled a new home jersey described by marketing manager Bjørn Ims as a more modern, design-oriented cut, an “Edge” style used by many NHL teams. The logo on the chest was also new: a complete, round emblem, whereas the O in Oilers had previously sat more loosely on the jersey.[2]
The 2012 jersey update also added yellow and black decorative lines under the sleeves, where the area had previously been all white. The club retained a black away jersey with a reversed color scheme relative to the white and black home jersey.[2]
In 2018, the local club Ishockeyklubben Stavanger (Stavanger Hockey) changed its logo to the same one used by Oilers, a move announced by Oilers’ marketing manager Lars-Peder Nagel and sports manager Pål Haukali Higson. The two clubs already worked closely together, and the change was intended to strengthen that cooperation further.[3]
Meaning and Symbolism
The club’s official colors are white, black, and yellow.[1] The flag of Stavanger Oilers is black with the club badge centered.[4] No official documentation of additional symbolic meaning behind the emblem’s individual elements has been published by the club.
