The Sioux City Musketeers are a junior ice hockey team based in Sioux City, Iowa, competing in the United States Hockey League (USHL). The team was founded in 1972 and plays its home games at the Tyson Events Center.[1] The franchise’s visual identity has evolved through several distinct eras, with the most significant change arriving in 2010.
Design and History
The Musketeers’ first documented primary logo was used from the 1972-73 season through the 1993-94 season.[2] A subsequent logo was used for only three years, from 1994 to 1997, appearing on official merchandise such as team pucks.[3]
The current primary logo was introduced for the 2010-11 season.[4] The redesign was credited to Young Blood Design.[4] Contemporary coverage of the rebrand described the new mark as featuring a bearded Musketeer with crossed rapiers behind a shield, a notable upgrade from the team’s previous, more esoteric logo.[5] A secondary logo introduced alongside the primary mark in the same season was also designed by Young Blood Design.[6]
In 2025, the team adjusted its color scheme, swapping its forest green for a kelly green on new jerseys introduced to celebrate the 40-year anniversary of the 1985-86 national championship team.[7]
Meaning and Symbolism
The team’s name and imagery reference the musketeer figure, a theme reinforced by the bearded Musketeer character and crossed rapiers featured in the 2010 primary logo.[5] The team’s official colors are green and gold.[1]
