Vanraure Hachinohe (ヴァンラーレ八戸) is a Japanese football club based in Aomori Prefecture, founded in 2006 through the merger of Hachinohe Kogyo SC and Nango FC. The club joined the J.League in 2019 and was promoted to J2 for the 2026 season. Its official club color is green, as registered with the J.League.[1]
Design and History
The Vanraure Hachinohe emblem is built around a squid, a specialty product of both Hachinohe and the former Nango village. According to the club’s official profile, the emblem’s motif is the squid, with its tentacles depicted as Nango soba noodles catching a ball. The background colors are blue, representing the sea of Hachinohe, and green, representing Nango.[2][1]
The club’s official description adds that the emblem reflects the merger of the two founding teams, Hachinohe Kogyo SC and Nango FC. The blue background of Hachinohe’s sea is shown with emerging breath or life, signifying that this is where the club began.[2]
The club name itself is a coined term combining the Italian words “derivante” (origin) and “australe” (southern land), expressing that the team’s origins lie in Hachinohe and Nango.[1]
Meaning and Symbolism
The squid motif draws directly on local identity. Hachinohe and its neighboring towns along the Sanriku coast are major fishing ports with a long reputation for seafood, and the club adopted a logo that includes branched seaweed within a blue-and-green field alongside the orange silhouette of a squid.[3]
The official club colors are green (registered with the J.League) and blue, with the latter described as representing the sea of Hachinohe. Orange also appears in the emblem, and the club has described orange as representing passion in the context of its emblem colors.[1][4]
In 2025, the club released a special festival uniform marking the 20th anniversary of the merger of Nango village and Hachinohe city. The design used colors from the club emblem: orange for field players, described as representing passion, and light blue for goalkeepers, described as representing the sea of Hachinohe.[4]
Typography and Design
The emblem is presented in a crest format with the club name rendered in lettering around the central squid design. The club’s official website describes the emblem as a three-dimensional crest patch in silver when used on special edition uniforms.[4] No official documentation of the emblem’s typography, exact color specifications, or original designer has been published by the club or the J.League.
